Tips and rules when you are out with a roof tent

Tips and rules for a safe and enjoyable experience and so that we can continue to use our rooftents as we do today!

Roof-tenting is a fantastic opportunity to get close to nature and enjoy all the benefits of the outdoors. But to have the best experience possible, it is important to consider certain aspects and follow rules that protect both you and the environment. Here are some tips and guidelines to keep in mind when you set out on your roof-tent adventure.

1. Choose a location and leave on time

- Before you set off on your adventure, it is absolutely recommended to decide where you will set up camp. Time flies when you are out looking for places and it is much harder to travel camping when it is dark.

- Respect the right of public access. In Sweden, you have the right to be in nature, but there are rules to follow. If you are camping on private land, make sure to ask for permission.

- Avoid sensitive areas. Do not camp in protected natural areas or on pastures, so that the animals can feel safe in certain places and have some peace and quiet.

- Plan for weather changes. If you go uphill, the weather can often change in a very short time. Always prepare when you arrive at the campsite. Also remember to choose a place that protects against wind and rain. Avoid setting up the tent under trees with dead branches. As they can fall down and damage the tent fabric.

2. Keep it clean and respect nature

- Take your trash home. If we see you littering in nature, we will personally throw you in the trash. Leave the place cleaner than you found it. Take all trash with you, even if there was some there when you arrived. We need to help each other.

3. Fire and cooking

- Use common sense. Always check if there is a fire ban in the area. If it is allowed, use a fireplace or grill to minimize the risk of forest fires.

- Cook safely, use a camping stove, gas grill. If you use an open fire, always put it out before you set off.

4. Respect animals and nature

- Keep your distance and remember not to disturb or stress the animals. We are actually at their home when we are out.

5. Safety

- Always inform someone of your plans. Let a friend or family member know where you are going and how long you plan to be away. It may sound silly, but things can happen that you absolutely do not expect to happen.

- Bring a first aid kit with you.

6. Respect others

- Keep your distance. Set up your roof tent at a distance from others to give everyone space and peace.

- Respect other adventurers and keep the noise level down, especially in the evenings.

By following a few guidelines and tips, you can enjoy a safe and enjoyable roof tent experience. And that all of us who love to pitch roof tents can continue to do so without a bunch of new rules and regulations.
